More about the History of Oberharmersbach

Oberharmersbach was first mentioned in 1139 on a charter under the name Hademarsbach. The town is part of the former free imperial valley Harmersbach, and thus was directly responsible to the emperor. The parish church of St. Gallus was built in 1839 of native sandstone in Romanesque Revival style. It is one of the largest churches in the Archdiocese of Freiburg. Oberharmersbach was formerly part Wolfach (Wolfach vacation rentals | Wolfach travel guide) the county. With the dissolution of 1973, the city came to a new Ortenaukreis.
